Hawley seeks DOJ probe of St. Louis case on couple wielding guns at protesters

Missouri GOP Sen. Josh Hawley on Thursday claimed the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office is improperly “targeting” the couple who wielded guns at protesters in their gated community last month, and requested the Justice Department open an investigation into the case.

In a letter to Attorney General Bill Barr, Hawley called for a federal civil rights probe into St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner’s investigation into the McCloskey family for using firearms to defend themselves and their property against protesters.

“This is an unacceptable abuse of power and threat to the Second Amendment and I urge you to consider a federal civil rights investigation into the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office to determine whether this investigation and impending prosecution violates this family’s constitutional rights,” Hawley wrote to Barr on Thursday.

I meant if tables were TURNED, he’d have gone after, not defended, these folks...for protecting their own property, against BLM, by now.

Just comparing the difference....of how he was so quick to put his DOJ into action....not that I approve of his going after the citizenry.

The couple's attorney, Albert Watkins, was shrewd to take possession of the wife's pistol. During the confrontation she had her finger on the trigger and was pointing it at the mob. The prosecution could have made a case around this (though I still think her actions were justified). Claiming that the handgun was inoperable takes this off the table.

Note that the husband showed proper trigger discipline and (as far as I could tell) avoided pointing it directly at anyone.

Is there any other kind today? I have to remind myself what TV show I watched the night before to remember what day of the week it is when I wake up. We are just overwhelmed and I truly believe it accounts for a lot of what makes us concerned about our own mental abilities - recalling names etc. We have never been bombarded like this. I DON’T need to know everything and I know I’ll feel much better not knowing who wrote what on tweeter or FB or whatever - none of which I have anything to do with. We certainly don’t need everyone’s opinions on every subject under the sun. You can tell I’m not a big fan of social media and I can’t help it but I do lay a lot of this pandemonium/chaos/lawlessness at the base of that!!! If I were KING for a day~~~except in my case, it would be QUEEN~~~~~

And with her other hand on her hip. What a strange stance. That’s the way you might approach some unruly kids in your house or yard - minus the gun, of course.

I don’t imagine she’s had a lot of range time or she wouldn’t have been standing like that OR holding the weapon like that..and absent range time, she shouldn’t have had the gun - period!
