True, but it would have to be much more bitter and I don’t think Brownstein/Armison have it in them.

As Thomas Sowell has said, " If you are not prepared to use violence to defend civilization, then be prepared to accept barbarism.”

Barbarism in Portlandia - it's what's for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Bon apetit, all you can eat. And then some.

“striking at the heart of Portland’s identity as an ultraliberal haven where protest is seen as a badge of
honor.”

Yeah, how’s that working for you? The criminals do what criminals do.

The deterioration started three decades ago. They supported, encouraged and endorsed their “Keep Portland Weird” ethos all that time. This is the inevitable outcome.

I don’t think they are really fretting and “soul searching” in earnest. They’ll pay some lip service to fixing the mess, but in the end, Portland will decay like Detroit. For whatever reason, the people in charge sympathize with those who are destroying their city more than with the citizens who work, pay taxes, and desire a clean and safe city.

The influx of people here in North Idaho is staggering (and bad). We are getting lots of refugees from the failed CA, OR and WA states.

He sounds a lot like Obama who was always surprised to find out he was in charge.

Floyd died after a white Minneapolis police officer pressed a knee to his neck on May 25

Notice the restraint on the part of the AP writer: Floyd died, not "Floyd was killed" or "Floyd was murdered".

The writer must be old school. Trial first, verdict later.

Jo Ann Hardesty, the first Black woman on Portland’s City Council, said protesters don’t need to destroy property to effect change but believes the violence is a reaction to a newfound understanding, particularly among white people, about “how abusive the police can be.”

Obama also never seemed to know anything, except what he claimed he read about in the papers or on TV.

"Small groups of protesters have set fires, launched fireworks and sprayed graffiti on public buildings, including police"

Those are not "protests" those are thugs attacking citizens and destroying other people's things.

This stopped being a protest a long time ago.

With all of Portland looking, they might find one or two souls.

I was in a field service engineering job in the early and mid 70s. Spent a lot of time in Portland, Tacoma, Longview, Seattle, Everett and other towns in the NW. It was really a great place back then.

Yep. We do quite a bit of work with a company based in downtown Portland.

Right after the George Floyd stuff exploded nationwide, the CEO there sent out a long, ranting message, to confirm that they will now be sensitive and “woke”, and want to defer a lot of profits to help BLM and the like.

We are NOT in a social services industry, and our client base is mostly made up of wealthy conservatives. I don’t see this working out well, long-term, for the Portland group.

They still have virtually no one working in-office, and likely will not for some time. This is more due to the riots and destruction than to Covid-19 social distancing.

Businesses never die, they just fade away....

The property insurance rates will skyrocket in Portland, and local businesses will just quietly disappear...

Portland’s identity as an ultraliberal haven where protest is seen as a badge of honor.

They have no clue as to what honor is they are just suckers who fell for the liberal BS trap a sure sign of weakness.
A useless lot at best.

Don’t believe it. The people of Portland do not have souls.
