I’ve seen them late night at the supermarkets in the sketchy parts of town. They’re usually the store’s last step before closing and making the neighborhood a “food desert”.

I used to live in a small town in New Jersey. (I was new there, grew up in Midwest suburbia).

The town in New Jersey had a section in the local paper about the various crimes. I cut one of them out and carried it in my wallet for years. Went something like this:

August 2, 1986. Officer Hank Meyers responded to a 911 call from the A&P [grocery store] Monday late afternoon after a disturbance erupted over a shopper having too many items in the “Under 12 items” checkout counter. No arrests were made.
