I Don’t Want to Go Back’: Many Teachers Are Fearful and Angry Over Pressure to Return
The New York Times ^ | July 11, 2020 | Dana Goldstein and Eliza Shapiro

Many of the nation’s 3.5 million teachers found themselves feeling under siege this week as pressure from the White House, pediatricians and some parents to get back to physical classrooms intensified — even as the coronavirus rages across much of the country.

On Friday, the teachers’ union in Los Angeles, the nation’s second-largest district, demanded full-time remote learning when the academic year begins on Aug. 18, and called President Trump’s push to reopen schools part of a “dangerous, anti-science agenda that puts the lives of our members, our students and our families at risk.”

My cub was sure some years ago that public schools were out of control and would take a big hit and fall-so she went to work teaching at a medium-sized Christian school in a small city-and she can hardly wait to get back ...

No problem. Quit. Learn coding and you may be able to work from home.

Have a relative who is a teacher’s aid. One teacher told her she has never worked so hard in her life as during during covid. She believed her. Such B.S.

Teachers didn't do this, the government did.

If the state hadn't closed the schools the teachers would have been in class.

Can't blame teachers for not going to empty schools, but Trump is right, they need to get back at it this fall.

Are they using covid because they are actually afraid of the students?

What? Afraid of out of control male students? In many cases, especially those who watch and believe the kick butt Angelina Jolie, Uma Thurma, Demi Moore and other action hero movies and believe they are just as equal, yes... they are afraid but will never admit it.

Unions are illegal in Texas

So why are there unions in Texas? I know many card carrying union members from many different trades. Please explain.

COVID isn’t Ebola. And to answer your question, yes, I would be. What a bunch of pussies everyone has become. It’s pitiful.

Cool but I suspect if you were an over 40 something high school teacher faced with spending the next 180 days inside a closed room with multiple daily sessions of ~30 different students meaning anywhere from ~90 - ~150 inside a closed room, you might have some apprehension.

I have two children that are teachers (God has a sense of humor). My daughter is nervous about infecting her 1 and 6 year old children. My son is nervous on how to handle students who are split between attending classroom and attending by computer.

Both are going to have challenges.

We are praying for them.

Why should they? They like getting paid to stay home.

They should be glad they aren’t grocery store clerks. They would have been working this whole time.

what?...ask the poor liddle $100,000 teachers to actually come to work?...well the half year they do call work....

maybe they could put in a couple of movies to while away the hours.....

I'v known less than 5 people who were teachers who I thought really really loved the kids and their profession.....most of them are in it for the short hrs, short year, superior benefits, and the security knowing that they can never be fired....

they should see the stress working among covid patients in a hospital to wake them up from their sleeping beauty dream...
