More info. This was a terrorist attack:
A man threw some type of incendiary device into Queen of Peace Catholic Church off State Road 200 on Saturday. People inside were setting up for Mass at the time, but no one was injured.
A suspect was apprehended in the 5900 block of South Pine Avenue. The Marion County Sheriffs Office said the man is being interviewed and the investigation is ongoing. The FBI, the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement have joined local officials in that investigation.
About 7:30 a.m. Saturday, a man drove up in a minivan and crashed through the front doors of the church, 6455 SW SR 200. He got out, threw some type of device into the main area of the building, and a fire started, the Sheriffs Office said.
Marion County Fire Rescue said it received the call at 7:35 a.m. and was on scene five minutes later. The fire was under control by 7:47 a.m. Photos provided by the Sheriffs Office show extensive damage inside the church building.
Calls to 911 alerted law enforcement to what had happened. Deputies were near the church and quickly spotted a vehicle that matched the descriptions that callers had provided.
The Sheriffs Office said deputies followed the vehicle and forced it to stop. The driver, whose name had not been released as of 11:30 a.m. Saturday, surrendered without incident.
At 11:45 a.m., firefighters were ventilating the upper reaches of Queen of Peace to make sure all the smoke dissipates.
Jennifer Drow, a spokeswoman for the Diocese of Orlando, said they are praying for all involved and are thankful that no one was injured.
Wow! Pine is quite a ways from this church. And taking 200 to Pine means a LOT of traffic and traffic lights. The area east and west of I-75 is always busy...
Then that makes sense that the San Gabriel mission fire probably is no coinkydinck.
Why no name? When a cracker does something stupid, they give his name and his race.
I'll bet his name is Muhammed Goathumper Mustafa. I'll just bet.
