My laptop worked perfectly for my granddaughter, Jordan, but obviously I am too damn stupid and inept because when I attempted to center the scoreboard, all the 666666666’s filled the screen.

I’ll try again tomorrow BEFORE I let her leave.

Sweetie, you are neither stupid nor inept. You're just trying to deal with an unfamiliar computer and it's frustrating. Get Jordan to watch as you duplicate how it messed up, then she can make sure you know the way to make it do what you want it to.

Oh, I just remembered that you hated that it's a touchscreen. If you get a wireless mouse, would that let you work around the touchscreen hassle? If so, that might help a bunch. Just a thought.
