Nobody is perfect, but Pew’s breakdowns and sample design in this case follow a sound methodology.
...

Poor premise...don’t need a vaccine. Prove me wrong. If I had a table and a chair and a signs to sit out front add like that guy doesn’t videos. I would do that. I’m so sick and tired of weak minded individuals thinking that we need a vaccine and we all need to wear masks until forth... notice none of the mask mandates include end dates? Do you notice that? I would think that freerepublic people would be above that fray... A Step Above intellectually. Too many on Free Republic don’t recognize the intellectual dishonesty Of all of that. Why don’t you see that?

Don’t read too well? The person I was replying to said all viruses get weaker and disappear. I provided an example of one virus (and later several others) that did not get weaker or disappear. I didn’t say SARS-CoV-2 was similar to smallpox or polio in structure, or spread, or fatality rate, or anything else. I said not all viruses get weaker on their own and disappear.

Do you disagree with me that not all viruses get weaker and disappear on their own? Or do you agree with me that some viruses remain dangerous and present over time?

Wanna win me over? OK. Waive the unprecedented immunity that vaccine makers have against civil lawsuits. If the vaccine is so good are you willing to put your money where your mouth is?

Didn’t think so.

Boy ! You sure are defensive aren’t you?

Let me ask you a straight up question - do you believe the government has the ability to force people to inject themselves with unknown materials in some syringe ? yes or no

And right now of course the government has exclusive rights on telling you what’s in that syringe or not and it’s holds the right to not tell you at all it’s in there

Do you think that’s correct , vaccine pro- person?

"So far I am not convinced this is worse than a medium flu season...

CDC flu death statistics say otherwise. Average flu deaths per year over the last ten or so years run around 30,000. Covid is at 130,000 deaths and still rising. No, it ain't the flu, bro.

Not me. Flu vaccines are a gimmick pushed by pharmaceutical companies. Never had the flu. The last vaccine I got was as a baby back in 1953 for polio.

Promise them a meaningful job and they gladly get the injection.

The Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, Donna Shalala, told a congressional panel, “We could spend our energy on research and immunization and education and still not have any Americans left unless we’re prepared to confront the crisis of AIDS.”

No, I don't. If someone doesn't want to take a vaccine, I don't believe they should be forced by the government to do so. I may think that's a foolish decision, but it's your decision to make.

At the same time, I do think it's important to get the facts out to people so they can make informed decisions based on real information and not some nonsensical conspiracy theory nonsense passed around on Facebook.

It’s important to boost confidence in something you do not have because you might have it and people might not take it.

Nor me, or my children! I don’t trust them. The problem for me is that too many scientists have been caught outright lying, fixing data, altering data, etc. for too long now. They come to conclusions based on their funding. I am a lover of science, but THEY have caused me not to trust them anymore because of these facts. When THEY start allowing discussion once again and stop silencing opposing voices and stop being authoritarian snobs, at that point I will be happy to consider their ideas.

My FRiend, you're mistaken in your premise.

I'm not trying to convince you - or anyone - of anything with this article or the Pew results, with the possible exception that there are lots of vaxx-skeptical people and there is an equally-passionate pro-vaxx lot who want things to go "their way."

IMHO, the pro-vaxx people really have nothing about which to worry if the serum works. Concerned people will want the vaccine, and the skeptics or those with immunity will avoid it. Over time if COVID19 flares up again and it's a mighty killer then skeptics may slip the script. That's how the free market works. It'll be like chocolat ice cream...if you like it and want it, then you can buy it. If not, then there is always vanilla. Therefore, if a vaccine is discovered, there won't be a need for a marketing campaign.

The odd thing about vaccines is, people who get them are "cured" but they usually fret about the unvaccinated lot. But why? - you're "saved" and these unvaccinated people aren't of any potential harm to you. Yea, yea, I get it...they can infect "the community" but a) one man's negative externality is another man's positive externality, and b) who made the vaccinated group the Lone Ranger of immunodeficiency?

A real fascinating development in this COVID19 saga is the blurring of philosophical lines and the emergence of statist tendencies amongst herertofore liberty-loving people. As you note, some conservatives on FR have given a cheery two-thumbs up to shutdowns, forced masking, etc., in the name of saving the nation from a healthcare system overload. Similarly, I've seen private property lovers swear they won't wear a mask in Wal-Mart.

But the biggest unmasking I've seen, is the reversal of the Dems...30 years ago they (allegedly) were for "the common man" and big business and the right of minorities and gays to be left alone, and finally for free speech. Look at them today....the Dems hate the common man, love big business, and want to force everyone to love what they like, and they detest free speech and thought.

I can see for miles and miles and miles and....

I won’t wear a mask and I won’t get a vaccine shot. This is BS.

I read somewhere there has never been a successful vaccine for a coronavirus. What makes this one different?

Let me ask you a straight up question - do you believe the government has the ability to force people to inject themselves with unknown materials in some syringe ? yes or no"

The answer should be - yes.

Not because I believe that is the Founders' intent, but the Supreme Court, by a 7-2 majority, said in Jacobson v. Massachusetts that the city of Cambridge, Massachusetts could fine residents who refused to receive smallpox injections.. In addition, many states have immunization requirements for school children. Per the article:

When a separate question of vaccinations—state laws requiring children to be vaccinated before attending public school—came up in 1922 in Zucht v. King, Justice Louis Brandeis and a unanimous court held that Jacobson “settled that it is within the police power of a state to provide for compulsory vaccination” and the case and others “also settled that a state may, consistently with the federal Constitution, delegate to a municipality authority to determine under what conditions health regulations shall become operative.” More recently, in 2002, a federal district court declined to find a exemption to mandatory vaccinations laws for “sincerely held religious beliefs” or a fundamental right of parents to make decisions concerning medical procedures of their children.

Now, it's worth noting that SCOTUS in Jacobson also said "We are not inclined to hold that the statute establishes the absolute rule that an adult must be vaccinated if it be apparent or can be shown with reasonable certainty that he is not at the time a fit subject of vaccination or that vaccination, by reason of his then condition, would seriously impair his health or probably cause his death.”
