A former employer of mine (ABN AMRO, a large multi-national Dutch bank) had operations in São Paolo. It's a very high-crime city.
Two fellow employees of mine were robbed of their laptops and cellphones back in 2005 as they crossed the street from our Operations Center to the Hotel they were staying in.
Quite literally, they couldn't cross the street in broad daylight to get to their hotel without getting robbed.
TWICE, on the same trip.

Wow, perhaps was time to get a better hotel... I had an office in SP on Faria Lima and stayed in a hotel next door: safety never a concern in Jardim. Stray from there, well... then you might as well be in Chicago, including at some of the downtown major hotels, which your colleagues probably used.
This incident was near the Sao Paulo municipal center, but on the edge of some marginal neighborhoods.
That's the America that the Left wants: self-protected elite neighborhoods surrounded by victims of same elites' policies.
