Hong Kong security law: China passes controversial legislation
BBC ^ | 30 June 2020 | Stephen McDonell

China's state news agency, Xinhua, confirmed that President Xi Jinping had now signed the security law... The law could be implemented as early as Wednesday...

It comes a day before the 23rd anniversary of the handover from Britain to China - a date usually marked by pro-democracy protests.

It will make criminal any act of secession, subversion of the central government, terrorism and collusion with foreign or external forces...

Hong Kong's sweeping new security law is a frighteningly open-ended tool to suppress political agitation. Like similar laws on the Chinese mainland it appears that it can be manipulated to meet the needs of the Communist Party as required to crush almost any action deemed threatening.

Unlike elsewhere in China, Hong Kong has an independent judiciary. For this reason, the Party's leadership was not going to leave interpretation of this law in the hands of just any old judges.

No. Those who will be allowed to preside in these matters will be hand-picked by Carrie Lam, the city's leader who was effectively installed by Beijing...

Washington on Monday began moves to end Hong Kong's special status trade relationship with the US.

Xi signed it, it starts tomorrow.

This is the end of freedom of speech or conscience in Hong Kong.

Now lets see what kind of sanctions they incur.

If the price is not high enough, their aggression will continue.

China is so afraid of reaction to the new law that they won’t post the law until it takes effect (1 July HK time).

Meanwhile, HK govt. officials all support a law they haven’t even seen yet. And don’t realize that the law can be used against them when purges come.

China is going all out to defeat the President. They know that a re-elected President Trump will continue to bring jobs back to America, support Taiwan, and root out the chi-com infiltrators. There are powerful, treasonous corporate leaders who detest the President for opposing their sell-out of America.

The Donald is America first instead of being a one worlder like Obammy, Both Bush’s and Clintons etc. Those know they will lose money if The Donald wins.
Screw China and Germany and the rest of the world who America has been carrying for decades.

Word on Twitter is that none of the citizenry has actually seen a copy of the law. Nobody knows what’s in it.

They have started arresting people under this law. A few dozen reported so far on the first day (the 1 July anniversary of the Handover, a traditional day for protests).
