If you buy a house or condo subject to a HOA then you abide by the policies or move out.

A bit draconian, I think.

I was in an HOA, a basic one, it did good, and in my case, a next door neighbor bought into the development and then put a junk car and motorcycle in his front yard and left it there. Every buyer was provided a copy of the covenants (all 55 pages), so they knew what they were buying into and knew they were not supposed to do that.

That was not a good thing because I was trying to sell my home and the junk kept collecting (and the noise. . .they fought a lot) did not help.

When they were finally evicted by the Sheriff (backed by a court order) for HOA violations, the yard and home were cleaned up, my home sold straightaway.
