There is an interesting 2010 NIH study that found that 53% of those admitted to nursing homes died during the first six months and 65% within the first year. So I wonder how many of these nursing home/LTC Covid deaths would have occurred regardless. Here is one paragraph from the study I found astounding:

Death has become institutionalized over the last 100 years. Today, 25% of all deaths in the nation occur in nursing homes and the proportion of all deaths that occur in these settings continues to rise. By the year 2020, an estimated 40% of Americans will die in a nursing home.

So 10 years before Covid, 25% of all deaths in America occurred in nursing homes. And with an aging population, I can understand the 40% projection for 2020. Similar percentages happened in Europe as well. But the US has larger populations per nursing home.

Exactly what we need are stats on how many people die in state after state “anyway” in times with no covid.I bet we would be surprised not very different from now.Of the 125 k that supposedly died from covid I wonder how many died in that time frame anyway?
