IMO we are well beyond contract tracing. The virus has spread so widely that we should just concentrate on protecting the most vulnerable and let the virus spread to develop herd immunity. We can deal with bolstering the healthcare facilities in hot spots. I agree. Everyone should take reasonable precautions (don't want to debate that again), but expect the virus to achieve more spreading events and even super spreading events. It really is up to everyone to keep the rate of spread manageable, and there's not a thing the government can or should do.
Michale Levitt, a Nobel Prize winner, postulated that the virus burns out when it has infected 15-20% of the population. Recent data seem to bear that out.
