Dull people aren’t too interested in complex intellectual questions, but smart people are. And smart people can be valuable employees in the right industries.

Good point, it does take some smarts to understand the different philosophy disciplines. However, what industries are looking for philosophy degrees other than teaching? Those degrees usually wind up in Human Resources like all other social science degrees. HR is a low-paying limited advancement position even in the biggest companies. Plus, they are the equivalent of police internal affairs, part-time therapists (Mommy), pissy conflict resolution between employees, and usually the firing entity. Crappy job.
