interesting to read the NYT obituary for Noel Ignatiev. naturally, he spread his ideas through academia:

I haven’t read much on this topic, so this was eye-opening. This guy was the poison in the well. All the terminology and attitudes we deal with today come from him. And all of the nice liberal folks have been led by the nose to where we are today. I’m not even sure a lot of them know what they have done.
