Mom is 96 with a compromised immune issue — myasthenia gravis. She’d NEVER wear mask — believes in “live free or die”. When we tease her about wearing a mask, she does this dismissive “CUH!” noise. She’s from “sturdy New England stock”, and won’t buckle. When she sees videos of the Asian population living their lives in masks, she says they look like “bugs crawling around the city”.
Beautiful, somewhat typical American story.
What a lady and definitely from a tough generation. Is she on immunosuppressed drugs? I remember shortly after my husbands transplant and able to go out in public, we asked our transplant team for a temporary handicap sticker.....they laughed and said, we encourage walking. Then when he went in for a checkup, they said.......no more masks in public, you must acclimate to the germs around you, you were given a heart to live a normal life, so start living it.
