I don’t disagree with you - what I wrote wasn’t a defense of the Bushes - George Bush Sr as VP was RR’s only mistake, and it was a doozy.
But however deserving of criticism Republican Presidents may be - our political system is binary whether we like it or not.
Republicans are our only way of defeating Democrats.
I am reminded of an old joke about two campers being chased by a grizzly bear.
As they are running, with the bear gaining on them, one camper says to the other. “I hope you realize that you can’t outrun a grizzly bear!”
The other camper replies: “I don’t need to outrun the grizzly bear, I just need to outrun you.”
Similarly, not all Republican Presidents need to measure up to Ronald Reagan or Donald Trump. Sometimes not being a Democrat is enough.
Rather than eight years of Obama? I would have gladly taken another Bush, a Romney, even a McCain.
Think of them as a placeholder while we wait for the next Reagan or the next Trump!
Republicans have a bad habit of eating their own. Republicans would make horrible football players. Republicans would probably pass to the other team’s wide receiver because he was more out in the clear.
You don’t see the Democrats making these mistakes.
But, given what we know today, how can we call the Bush family one of our own? I would not call any of them ‘conservative’ let alone ‘patriots’... Their self interests always came first... and they USED US and abused US in the furtherance of their self centered agenda.
Who was the last ‘president’ that donated their salary to good causes, and loved this nation above their own private interests? I have people I no longer have relationships with over the Bush family... I stood up for them, and only to find out I was the one standing ... The Bush family are a 1,000 points of dim bulbs, for their own twisted goals.

Nonsense. VA is now a blue state precisely because of polices supported by GOP Presidents. If you like California’s gun laws keep voting GOP because that is what you will get sooner or later. Most likely sooner.
