DC's Emancipation Memorial, target of protests, was funded by former slaves: reports

A controversial statue in Washington, D.C., and replicated in Boston, has a history that many people who currently oppose the statues might not know, according to reports.

Both statues depict President Abraham Lincoln standing over a kneeling black man who is newly freed from slavery. Critics of the statues claim the image communicates the black man's subservience -- and have called for the statues in both cities to be removed.

But the idea for the statue started with a formerly enslaved woman who wanted to pay homage to Lincoln after he was assassinated in 1865, according to the National Park Service.

So to show their support for BLM, the virtue signaling morons have...

1. Eliminated the picture of any black icon from all food products

2. Banned the movie with the first black actress to win an Oscar

3. Pulled down statues paid for by former slaves to celebrate their freedom

Seems sort of backward.

I read something about this statue the other day. The article included a picture. The author pointed out that in this statue, the black man is not kneeling, head down, like a slave; he is in the act of rising to his feet, like someone breaking out of his chains and standing up. The man’s head is up and he is looking upward. When you look at the picture, it is obvious just what the statue represents.

The statue was funded by donations from former slaves and it was the idea of a woman who had been a slave. The black man is based on a real person though I have forgotten exactly who he was.

Apparently what is obvious to me is not obvious to the younger generations, who have not been taught the origins and meanings of the statue.

It shouldn’t be a surprise, I suppose. I think I read about a statue of a well-known abolitionist (William Wilberforce, maybe?) being defaced.

I would be willing to bet if you took a survey of these “protesters” (vandals) that not one in 100 would have a clue who William Wilberforce was.

Freed black slaves adored President Lincoln. Current black slaves on the white democrat plantation hate Lincoln.
