Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) said Thursday the state will pause its efforts to reopen the economy as the number of confirmed coronavirus infections spikes and hospitals begin to fill.
Abbott has been warning of a mounting catastrophe for days, as new cases rise precipitously in Houston, the Dallas metroplex and in cities like Austin, San Antonio and El Paso.
Abbott said businesses that are already allowed to operate under the current reopening phase will continue to be able to do so.
"As we experience an increase in both positive COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations, we are focused on strategies that slow the spread of this virus while also allowing Texans to continue earning a paycheck to support their families," Abbott said in a statement. "The last thing we want to do as a state is go backwards and close down businesses. This temporary pause will help our state corral the spread until we can safely enter the next phase of opening our state for business."

That was a hope based on what has happened with other coronaviruses. Since this one is brand new, no one knew for certain what would happen. Heat seems not to be a factor: Arizona, Florida, Texas and California are where it is doing the most damage in June.

However, hospitalizations do drive some testing, and there is some indication that people hospitalized for other things are testing positive and getting counted.
But that doesn’t explain the huge spike in hospitalizations starting exactly when you would expect it to, of younger people.
In Arizona it seems to be driven by migrant workers and a new wave on the indian reservations.
Right, question is, are they coming in —because— of the virus, or coming in —with— the virus.

They are not the problem! The government thinking it can control a virus is the problem.
That is a lie! He has dragged his feet.
Children are at very low risk as are those under 60 and without other health issues.
That appears to be changing. There’s a big uptick in younger people getting the virus but it appears to be less severe.

Friends son went to get tested at Southwestern medical center in Dallas. Had to wait two days to get tested because supposedly they were swamped but he got there, they had four tents set up, and all were empty, he was the only one there.

I didn’t say that young people weren’t getting infected, but that they didn’t seem be affected by it too much. They have good immune systems.

You are correct and yet there is a alarming trend of some otherwise healthy young people dying from strokes in combination with COVID-19.
