Texas governor issues exec order suspending elective surgeries in 4 counties
Becker's Hospital Review ^ | June 25, 2020 | Alia Paavola

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott issued an executive order June 25 to ensure beds are available for patients with COVID-19 as cases continue to spike in the state.

The executive order suspends elective procedures in four Texas counties: Bexar, Dallas, Harris and Travis. The order directs all hospitals in those areas to postpone all nonemergent procedures.

The order allows Mr. Abbott to add or subtract from the list of counties to address surges in hospitalizations that may arise in other parts of the state.

"As Texas faces a rise in COVID-19 cases, we are focused on both slowing the spread of this virus and maintaining sufficient hospital capacity for COVID-19 patients," Mr. Abbott said. "These four counties have experienced significant increases in people being hospitalized due to COVID-19 and today's action is a precautionary step to help ensure that the hospitals in these counties continue to have ample supply of available beds to treat COVID-19 patients."

Anybody know where I can find the who, what, where, why info for the Texas numbers?
The State website is always a day or two behind, and I would like to know what areas the spread is coming from, along with the reasons for the hospitalizations.
I cannot find any information that makes any sense.

Actually flu bros not sad. We flattened the curve, there was never a statement that we would reduce the cases. Now the cases seem to be shifting toward the young and non vulnerable. We dont have any critically ill in my hospital, and even the older at risk seem to be handling this better.

This is exactly how all pandemics go, seems to me we are on track to get through this, finally develop group immunity and get on with life — see the death rate, it is dropping despite the surge, and this means that we are in a relatively good spot

Its just the flu, bro (albeit the kung flu — now I will get cancelled)

You probably missed the breaking news yesterday. Video has been discovered of Obama using the phrase “Kung Flu” in 2015. Waiting for Kaleigh McEnany to toss that at the CBS China Witch in her next presser.

Are people being hospitalized due to wuhanvirus symptoms, or because they come in for something else and test positive?

Of the ones coming in due to symptoms, how many wind up in the ICU?

This is the site that I use. Click on USA (we’re at the top), and then you’ll see all the states pop up.

Not that it helps much, but Texas, as bad as we are now, started way behind with infection rates, so in a way, we’re now catching up (something that I wish we weren’t doing, obviously).

Hey again, FRiend doc, old reporter Nothingburger.

Thanks for your illuminating comments on this thread.

I read a good story yesterday about something called “Farr’s Law,” which I believe was first theorized by an English physician in 1840.

Based on this story — reinforced by your observations from the front lines — the epidemic is burning itself out much as Dr. Farr described a century and a half ago.

Please keep contributing to these threads. You are closer to this “crisis” than nearly anyone else here. Me, I just sit in my little home office and try to stay informed.

What is your opinion regarding the virus having less mortality ? Do you think it has mutated to a less lethal form?

It’s a combination

1. All viruses in the early stage go through the reaping of those most vulnerable. They get it easier and have higher mortality. It’s seen in every other viral pandemic

2. As time goes on, viruses tend to degrade into less virile and less severe forms

3. As time progresses we get a better idea the nuances of treatment as well as the protection of the most vulnerable.

I think the combination of the above three is why we see the death rate plummet.

Apparently the State is not interested in bankrupt hospitals. We are not in any danger of having our hospitals be overwhelmed by any of this.

The State doesn't give a damn about any of us. It's all about power. Doesn't matter if democrat or republican, they are all evil.

It is being limited to the areas actually being hit, though, and not the areas not being hit. It is entirely practical...unlike policies elsewhere banning procedures where the hospitals sit empty.

So the stories that the children's hospitals are now having to admit COVID19 patients because of overcrowding at the other hospitals are false reports? I mean they could be - I'm not mocking you - the press lies about a lot of stuff...but it seems odd the administrators of these hospitals would go along with these reports if it wasn't happening.

I saw that about Farr’s law on Redstate....pretty much common sense....virus hits the populace, takes out the “low hanging fruit” per Micheal Fumento, peaks and the death rate dissipates on its own no matter what...

Wouldn't surprise me at all. Scaring people sells clicks. I know for a fact that several local hospitals were laying of boatloads of people less than a month ago, and were hardly occupied at all in the ICUs.

Here's a wild idea: How about we let the free market take care of things for a while and see how well that works out? The scaremongers have had control of this crap for long enough.
