I generally hear a few fireworks each evening, but all quiet after 9 pm except crickets and a few cars until maybe 11 pm. Occasionally, thunderstorms continue through the night. For the exception on Saturday night, people lit off a fairly large number of firecrackers, apparently in celebration of the success of the Trump rally. No cicadas this year either.

In most summers, I notice extensive foot traffic (including chatter, music, and sometimes basketball) and occasional fireworks in the streets well after midnight. This deep nocturnal quietude began in March and continues still.

Out here where I live if you hear what sounds like fireworks after dark, it’s probably somebody poaching a deer or killing a bear or mountain lion.

Usually starts with one BANG, pause for about 20 to 40 seconds then 3 or 4 four quick follow up bang, bang, bangs.

Must just be poor shots or scared as hell.
