Apparently the fact that you ACTIVELY WORKED TO END SLAVERY is no longer enough.

But let us be precise and accurate on this point. Seward actively worked to pass the Corwin Amendment, which would have made slavery permanent had enough states ratified it.

So he was working to preserve it before he was working against it.
