Well you are mostly right. With all the testing going on the identified Coronavirus cases will go up. They could be going up without the testing but I doubt it. And there is actually no way that I can see that would allow you to separately evaluate those two factors.
I recommend ignoring the New Case Data. At least for now.
But you are spot on when it comes to watching the death rates. They are not affected by the testing and, while possibly inflated, it is the trends that count much more than the totals. Are they up, down or are they steady as you go?
My take, Wikipedia database, is steady and somewhat down. Certainly not spiking up. But not zero either - a few hundred a day. Maybe 500. That would be 15,000 per month and well below what we were seeing in April and May.
But, a word of caution, a jump up in deaths could happen. If it is going to we should see it in the next month. If we do we should believe it, either accept it or do something about it and stop blaming Soros and the Deep State.

It is not the heat that kills the virus in summer time. It is because people are outside getting sunshine (vitamin D) that boosts the immune system.
also they are not crammed in to homes during the winter with windows closed and not getting exposed to sunshine.
