Call me a grammarian and pedantic, but I do wish that authors/writers would be consistent in their identifications. The subject of this otherwise excellent article is Economics Professor Walter Block but this reporter, Tristan Justice, of the Federalist, consistently refers to him throughout as ‘Walter’ rather than ‘Block’ or ‘Professor Block’. Everybody else that is personally identified in this article has subsequent identification by their LAST NAME!
I’m sorry but this kind of thing just grates on me, I’m old-school and expect higher standards!
I know what you are talking about. I was born and raised in Germany and went to school in my home town where I grew up. Grammar is very important and if you do not speak correctly the teacher corrects you. For example you never say I and so and so. If you do the teachers always said a Jackass or Donkey always names himself first, otherwise its my friends and I, or so and so and I.
I have no problem if he is friends with the professor and calls him by his first name, otherwise it’s disrespectful. Otherwise he should say Professor so and so, or the Professor without mentioning his name.
