About 300 people are expected to take part in a “socially distanced” climate change rally in Melbourne on Saturday, as concerns mount about rising numbers of coronavirus cases in Victoria.
Restrictions are due to be eased in Victoria on Monday, however, experts worry the state could be at the tipping point of a second wave of infections...
Saturday’s protest, organised by climate activist group Extinction Rebellion, is due to take place from 2pm.
Organisers said they were planning on carrying out three forms of protest: a bike ride, road blocks and an art installation...
Extinction Rebellion organisers said protestors will be limited to travelling in groups of 20 to abide by coronavirus restrictions.
They say they are trying raise awareness that the “climate emergency is upon us and we must act now”.
“Our governments want a return to business as usual, with large public investment in dirty energy projects to kickstart the economy. The climate emergency is upon us and we must act now,” they said...

In total three demonstrators were arrested, quickly released and fined $330 each for failing to obey traffic directions given by a police officer...
