They tore down the statue of confederate general Ulysses S. Grant because he fought to maintain slavery. It's also understandable to topple Francis Scott Key; I mean, who can sing that song?

Grant fought for the North to overthrow slavery in the South amongst other things. He was not a supporter of slavery during the Civil War.
Lee surrendered to Grant if I remember correctly at appamatix courthouse.
