There are legal procedures for removing statues. NONE of those procedured include having an out-of-control mob tear down statues of their choice...

First they came for the Statues and I did not speak out because I was not a Southerner.

Then they came for the Police and I did not speak out because I was not Police.

Then they came for Republicans and I did not speak out because I was not a Republican.

Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me.

Once mobs have power it's only a question of time...

statues down why not enhance toe historic record
by erecting statues that honor the slaves?

The PC Left has found a great way of recruiting "conservatives" to their war against Southern heritage and symbols. They have played the "Confederates were Democrats!" card repeatedly, and so have successfully won many establishment Republicans over to the same cause as Antifa and BlackLivesMatter.

What the GOP idiots who support tearing down these monuments can't or won't acknowledge is that this isn't really about the Confederacy or the South, it's about attacking the evil "dead white males" who created western civilization, starting with the easy targets first. Now emboldened, they're going after statues of Winston Churchill and will be going after statues of George Washington next. I hope that politically correct Republicans are happy with their choice of allies.
