They always could. Doctors prescribe stuff off-label all the time, no matter what some stupid liberal tries to tell you.

We learned that the original approval for emergency use was actually an act of sabotage.

The emergency approval limited prescriptions of Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) to hospitalized patients who were dying or close to it.

It was rigged for failure.

The headlines printed “Emergency Approval of Hydroxychloroquine revoked!”

This was deliberately misleading. The removal of the emergency approval actually took away they restriction that a prescription be written only for very sick patients admitted to a hospital.

The removal now allows MDs to prescribe for all patients diagnosed with SARS-COV-2 or COVID-19 as a prophylactic or as a treatment. In fact, an MD can prescribe HCQ as a prophylactic for patients who test negative for the coronavirus and are otherwise asymptomatic. For example, a healthcare worker or frontline grocery clerk may take HCQ to guard against infection and development of symptoms just as travelers take HCQ as a prophylactic when traveling to countries with heavy malaria exposure.

And since this has started MDs are learning the importance of Zinc and sometimes Azithrmycin (Zpak).

Dr. Zelenko has an excellent analogy that all people can understand.

HCQ = Pistol
Zinc = Bullet
Zpak = Bullet proof vest

This is good news since I just tested positive for Coronavirus. I was told to self quarantine for 14 days and if my temperature went above 100.4 to go to an emergency room. This doesn’t make any sense to me. I have other symptoms, headache, dry harsh cough, lethargy, light headedness, temperature of 100.2. It doesn’t feel SAFE to me that with all these symptoms I should wait until my temp. goes up .2 degrees. I think the Dr. should be prescribing HCG right now, in order to get a head start on this. Why wait until I have to go into a hospital to get treatment??

My doctor won’t!
Had my checkup 2 days ago.....
....asked her opinion about Hydroxychloroquin, etc....
....she emphatically said NO!
....and gave me multiple print outs against it.....including one naming Trump!

She is not my regular doctor.....( an emergency took the other one for the da)

This has been one of the most political, and misleading, events in the history of the FDA.

There was no need to issue an EUA for HCQ, since it was a licensed and approved drug since 1955. Off label prescribing does not require FDA approval, in fact, there is no process for that to occur.

If, for example, I want to prescribe Dilantin for neuropathy, even though it’s not “FDA approved” for that, I just do it. If I called the FDA to ask for permission, they would tell me I don’t need it.

So, since there was no need to issue an EUA to begin with in the case of HCQ, withdrawing the EUA is meaningless. But it’s a big news story, nonetheless.

Does the emergency removal mean that Drs. can more easily be sued by patients if the HCQ does not work for their covid?
