This is the result of parents who don’t care what their kids are taught in school. It’s been going on for some time.
Years ago I read about college students not proud to be American. I asked my young relatives about being in Europe (year abroad programs) as American college students. They reported how surprised they were that foreign students were proud of their countries. Not one American kid around them was. They were proud of their states or cities but not their country

I’d also assign a good portion of the blame to the media. Tonight’s news: “America is bad. Here’s why America is bad.”
