WALHALLA, SC (WSPA) The city of Walhalla has enacted a curfew amid rival protests in front of a Confederate monument, Monday evening.
The curfew runs from 9:00pm to 6:00am.
Community activist Traci Fant said Mayor Danny Edwards and members of the city council enacted the curfew at the scene of the protests.
Dozens of people, some representing Black Lives Matter and others carrying Confederate flags were gathered at the Our Confederate Dead monument on Main Street.
The monument was the scene of another protest Friday evening which included one protester tying himself to the monument.
Walhalla Police said several people were arrested for breach of peace and disorderly conduct.
Chief Sean Brinson said officers are trying to enforce the curfew at this time and he expects the rallies to continue Tuesday night.
Fant told 7 News that six people were arrested.
“This situation is not earth shaking news but shows that even rural, out of the way communities are not immune from the current racial turmoil. Revolution coming soon to a country crossroads near you.”
Actually, it’s pushback by patriots against the BLM racists and Antifa Nazi weenies.
You just couldn’t find the right words to accurately portray this situation.
Give these socialists the hell they deserve.
Good!
Certainly not at Confederate-soldiers’ OWN Valhalla!
I attended university not too far from there. The Walhalla SC that I knew would not have even allowed it to get this far. Even the women would kick your ass if you crossed them.
Am I the only one who compares the destroying of statues with the Nazis burning of books along with the broken store windows and burning private property? To rewrite history, one must destroy the past and teach anew. Fake news now fake history next.
