Marvin Gaye's What's Goin' On? (YouTube at the click) occurred at a different point in the cycle of manipulation of powerlessness, rage and scapegoating in his time than we are now at in our cycle within cycles. We are suffering from much more oppressive "partisan 'tolerance' " (some freedom of expression more "equal" than others) absolutely forbidding any dissent, than people were in Marvin's time, exhausted by successive tsunamis of violence and disillusionment, JFK, MLK, RFK, Chicago 1968, Viet Nam, Watergate brewing in 1971. So Marvin asked them for self-reflection, What's Goin' On?
Today's fomenters of dissatisfaction and alienation keep up on the continual plan for ramping up the smoke absent light. Today's news media are much more desperate than then at the time of the exclusive Big 3 NBC, CBS & ABC, as now the futile point of dispersion of mass illusions and disinformation fostered by the hidden ultra-elite spins out to the final dinosaur-extinction dispersion of meaninglessness.

They called our troops “baby killers” and spit on them at airports, praised the North Vietnamese at “anti-war” (ha ha) rallies, called police pigs and fascists, called politicians opposed to Communism “fascists”, began a bombing campaign of buildings in the US that reached the thousands by the late 1970s, robbed banks to fuel their “revolution”, praised the Manson family,... they weren’t so much different than the yute of today.
They certainly weren’t more restrained in their actions.

I always loved that song. That kind of echoey sound always struck me as he was trying to capture the inner city, the buildings do echo sounds.
But, sad as this is, Marvin Gaye died from black on black murder.
That’s actually a pretty simple bass line. I could play that in my sleep.
