How thorough could it have been before the cuffs were applied? There’s a whole chicken-and-egg aspect to this that becomes especially high-risk when the suspect resists:

There have been a number of instances where the suspect was searched, cuffed, produced a gun and killed the arresting officer. You could say the cops involved were remiss, but they are still dead. Not all criminals are dumb. And cops don’t always encounter criminals when they are fresh and alert, at the beginning of their shift.

Terrible pat down. They asked what was in his pocket, he said cash. They said ok. Honestly, a cop should not take a persons word for it.
