One Atlanta police officer has been fired and another has been reassigned following Friday night’s shooting death of Rayshard Brooks in the parking lot of a fast-food restaurant.

The fired officer was identified as Garrett Rolfe, who had been with the Atlanta Police Department since 2013, WSB-TV of Atlanta reported.

The second officer, identified as Devin Bronsan, was placed on administrative duty, according to the report. Bronsan has been with the department since 2018, a police spokesman told the Associated Press.

I wore a badge for 24 years and I don’t buy that argument. It could be, and has been, used to justify all kinds of force used by the police over the years. And the suspect missed, after which he was shot. How do you justify that?

What idiocy. The criminal loser resists arrest, assaults the police, steals their tazer and, then, might get their weapon so as to murder the police. The nitwit got what he deserved. Good shooting I’d say. (I know...the perp was working hard at the community college toward turning his life around)

The rush to “justice” without even determining the facts is sickening. I would not blame all police for walking off the job

Banning the knee to the back of the neck move or using choke holds will cost lives.

A white cop would be crazy going any where near a black person committing a crime. It will destroy their life.

The next phase will be, after white cops step back, black perps will go on to commit more crimes and the white cop will be fired for not stopping them. No win situation for white cops.

For a long long time now cops have been getting quicker on the trigger, not coincidently as pysical standards have been lowered.

Good point about the physical standards of cops being lowered.

The widely hated Chinese local police (chengguan) usually carry no guns but use these long sticks with bow-shaped ends to pin assailants in place. They won't stop a shooter. but a couple of cops could have handled the Atlanta incident with them.

Perhaps police in general should be restricted to using non-lethal force - and when lethal force is required armed citizens - a city militia - should step in to settle the situation. Reorder the priorities to put the citizen at the top - and simultaneously frighten 80% of progressives out of politics entirely,

A tazer is usually nonlethal but can cause heart arrhythmias and death. Still it is a better alternative in some cases than a higher probability death caused by multiple bullets.

Some cops have been sued for using a tazer and the person died. Can’t win for losing.

The shooting was justified if the perp was firing a tazer that could have incapacitated on or both of the cops.

Could have but those “sticks” weren’t available nor would they have had the training and they still could have been shot by a tazer...which still can cause death or heart arrhythmias.

The cops used what they had per policy...

Maybe you can go down to Atlanta and get on the Police re-organization board!

Newer taser models have two shots. Can’t tell if the one involved here was a two shot unit or if it was did it still have another shot left. If it had another shot left then the officer could of been disabled and his lethal weapon used against him. More than a few cops have been shot with their own gun.

Note: I am not defending the the shooting just pointing out what/how the officer was most likely trained in.

A tazer is usually nonlethal but can cause heart arrhythmias and death...”

A cops response to resistence is so circumscribed today that there is little a cop can do that will actually work. 50 years ago this guy would have caught a “wood shampoo” been cuffed and tossed into a car and jailed. No choke hold (for political reasons) No raining down blows of any kind (for political reasons ) No baton (for political reasons ). No tasing (for political reasons) In fact today a perp only has to keep fighting to turn a video of an arrest into a rallying cry for the “civil rights” movement.

The Police have been feminized and now their hands are tied. Frankly they all ought to get the hell out of Dodge because they can’t win.

Ok. Play that out...what does that really accomplish? Getting all the police to quit to what end? You think that’s going to make a difference and prove a point? No, it will just provide exactly what the anarchists want. The police are truly the thin blue line between a polite society and one of paid protection and vigilantism, which is no better than the silliness going on in CHAZ.

So you were there and know with certainty this guy pointed a taser at them? Or you’re just going off the article? Did you see body cam footage? And a Taser will debilitate the Col and allow the bad guy to get their firearm.

A city militia. What could possibly go wrong? And these people are going to do this out of the goodness of their hearts? Take on that liability? Will they be trained, or just come as you are? Or, you’re suggesting immunity from any bad decisions? Or suspensions of all courts? Who pays for this protection? Just want to know the ground rules...or if there are any.

If I knew what you were trying to say I could answer. Try to provide a quote if you are going to reply elliptically.

No I wasn’t there and there were TWO cops present. If two guys with guns, pepper spray batons aND tasers and a radio link to backup can’t handle one guy with a taser then I don’t know WTF about anything. I mean SHIT MAN.

Sean Hannity (who’s been taking karate lessons for years) questions why police don’t use other tools before the gun.

Pain point manipulation, mace/pepper spray, Taser, billy club...how often are one or all of those used before the gun?

Do LEO spend as much time practicing all of those take-down methods as they do at the gun range? If not, why not?

So you think in a lethal force situation were fractions of seconds count a ‘militia’ member will be at the ready??

Yes, police do practice takedowns more than gun play.

Sean is a narcissist who just wants people to know he practices martial arts.

Ok, not having the benefit of body cam video, I do not know how fast this transpired. However, I do know, the police officers already had a physical altercation where the bad guy stoke the taser and got away. cops are trained when your taser is stolen and turned on you lethal force is authorized AND depending how fast, how much lighting, etc., the officers may not have had clear indication it was a taser and not a firearm. All in all, though tragic outcome, a good shoot. Each and every time. And, with two officers there, they are each responsible for each other’s safety, so for that reason, it’s also a good shoot.

You'd say the "cops brought the guns in early", but you'd be wrong. The cops had the right to use deadly force on the suspect IMMEDIATELY upon the suspect becoming armed with the taser. The suspect can immobilize the cop with the taser, then take the officers weapon, then kill the officer with his own weapon at that point. The use of deadly force is justifiable.

Then you say; "For a long long time now cops have been getting quicker on the trigger, not coincidently as pysical standards have been lowered."

A completely unsubstantiated comment to bolster your initial comment
