WASHINGTON The GOP-led Armed Services Committee has approved a motion requiring the Pentagon to rename military bases and assets named after Confederate leaders defying President Trump, who warned them not to support the Elizabeth Warren-introduced measure.
The committee on Wednesday approved the amendment to the annual defense bill which will establish a commission to rename all Pentagon assets including ships, planes, buildings, military bases and equipment that bear the name of Confederate generals within the next three years, Roll Call reported.
Cities across America have begun removing statues honoring Confederate leaders as the nation engages in an emotional conversation about race and civil rights in the wake of George Floyds death at the hands of a white police officer.
Aboard Air Force One on his way to Dallas Thursday afternoon, President Trump tweeted his disapproval of the move from Warren, a member of the committee and former Democratic presidential candidate, telling Republicans not to fall for it.
Seriously failed presidential candidate, Senator Elizabeth Pocahontas Warren, just introduced an Amendment on the renaming of many of our legendary Military Bases from which we trained to WIN two World Wars. Hopefully our great Republican Senators wont fall for this! Trump wrote.

Idiot coward Republican.
Just like Moslems and BLM....they will not like you for it!
Why bother?
Once again the GOP Senate leaves POTUS bare behind to the beltway winds.
The traitorous demonRats would make Hitler, Mao and Stalin proud for the treasonous acts they are committing today with their book burning and history rewriting. Destroy the south’s heritage is to remove the reminder of their rebellion. Next will be the founding fathers standing up to England and you know they will also attack Christians more violently. These people have a very dark and harden heart.
Our top military officer apologizes for standing next to the president of the United States in America. This is where we are now.
Spot on. Clearly, there is no opposition party to the rampaging progressive corportists. As Grenell said on Tucker: it’s all of DC vs. America.
Where can we find another Conservative party?
Why rip up ~half the story???
I'm afraid that concept does not register with the low-intellect types (which seem to be surging in numbers).
Is Trump really going to veto the entire military funding bill to "DEFEND" "racist, traitorous, terrorist" Confederates?
How is that going to play with the electorate -- particularly the Blacks Trump has so assiduously courted for 3.5 years -- once the media, politicians, celebs, musicians and the Biden and NeverTrump campaigns slam him over the head with it?
Returning a bill unsigned is a veto. Signing a veto statement is not required.

Every few years lately the leftists have to dig up the corpse of the Confederacy and bravely swat away at it for a while. It might be because they’re emboldened and thinking they can get away with anything. Probably more like an indication that they’re scared and fresh out of ideas on matters of substance.
I actually didn’t know that these posts were named after Confederate officers. Apparently most of them were started during the WW1 and WW2 buildups. The powers that be in the states where they were located were consulted about the names. The Civil War and aftermath were still vivid, sore memories for the South back in those days, and the gov’t mainly wanted people fired up and on-board with the war efforts. It’s an odd result, but I get it.
I’m not sure why Trump chose to dig in his heels so fiercely on this, but I’m not too concerned about it. He could have said he thought it was a waste of time, but he’d leave it up to the Army, Congress, and the states where the posts are located. The Confederacy was defeated 155 years ago. There were a few Southerners around who were still choked up about the Civil War when I was young, but they have to be a rare breed by now, don’t they? You don’t have to join in on every pie fight you’re invited to.
Don’t think it ends with renaming military bases named for Confederate officers. There is already much talk of removing statues of Washington and Jefferson and other founding fathers who owned slaves.
And, of course, several statues of Columbus have already been toppled.
These days, you could probably lose your job by writing your congressman if yours is not the correct position. I don’t trust any of those pandering scumbags.
Bush League Republicans.
We MUST elect better Republicans.
Better Republicans have to want to run for office. More and more that’s the hard part.
I agree with you . Defending dead confederates is a lost cause. Add to the legislation, language that new names can only be Medal of Honor winners. This will thwart the RATs desire to name bases after abortionists, transgenders, etc.
First they came for the Dead Confederates....
That time was July 2017, and it's long gone.
"There is a tide in the affairs of men.
Which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune;
Omitted, all the voyage of their life
Is bound in shallows and in miseries"
It’s about erasing our history.
I am grateful President Trump is standing firm.
Not ONE of our elected or appointed stood for the Constitution on Usurpation Day.
They swore in an ineligible usurper they KNEW was not a natural born citizen.
The riots today are a direct result of the usurpation and eight years of a foreigner enemy agent in the White House.
The founders knew what they were doing.
I do believe in the impossible. Donald Trump’s presidency is the impossible.
Yes - we are in a war, and there will be casualties. Right now, my own kids are mesmerized by BLM. Over time, they will learn how they were duped. So we need to play defense right now, understanding the times we live in.
I will trade confederate statues and base names for time to put down this rebellion.
But it will never be enough, it will just encourage more until they demand we change our flag and rename Washington DC.
