While one alderman wept, others grew angry with the mayor, demanding to know what her strategy was to stop the violence that began in earnest late Saturday.
The call provides a snapshot into the citys response as of midday on Sunday to the most widespread and damaging unrest since the uprising after the murder of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and the police riots after the Democratic National Convention in 1968.
The recording begins with Ald. Michelle Harris (8th Ward) wondering how she could convince businesses like Walmart and CVS to rebuild on the South Side after the destruction.
Its like, what are we going to have left in our community? Harris asks her colleagues before answering herself. Nothing.
The Chicago City Councils Black Caucus criticized Lightfoots decision to use 375 members of the Illinois National Guard to block off the Loop and the central business district starting Sunday morning, making business corridors on the South and West sides an easy target for looters and criminals because they did not have the same level of protection.

Only some black lives matter
The Left would have this Country burn as long as they get to be Kings of the Ashes.
Im going to stop even thinking about driving through ChIraq on the freeways.
"Give them room to destroy."

"Let the bunker burn."

Blacks keep voting for Democrats—and wonder why everything seems to keep going wrong in their communities—for decades....
Scary, isn’t it? That’s the way I feel about East St. Louis, too. The US already has no-go zones for police and whites.
Yes, only the ones with political power.
Unrest. A ridiculous term for riot.
“...demanding to know what her strategy was to stop the violence.”
Taking our guns.
Having grown up in Chicago the damage done by the King Riots ( NOT uprising) on Madison Street was there for decades.
What Are We Going To Have Left In Our Community??
Well- When you let emotion rule your decisions... just say’n
Funny how certain areas never seem to have the work ethic required to repair and rebuild. Much of New Orleans looks just as it did after Hurricane Katrina. They’re still waiting for somebody else to do it for them. It’s learned helplessness.
“and the police riots after the Democratic National Convention in 1968”
Police riots? What foul rewriting of history is this?
This story is 1000% BS. Channel 11 WTTW has been a cheerleader for Mayor Lighthead since she took office. Channel 11 will be back with stories victimizing the Mayor against some uncooperative aldermen.
The Chicago Media dances to Lighthead’s tune. They did not print this without her permission.
Looks like it’s an NPR or PBS site. That’s par for the course, and we are forced to pay for this crap.
I like to get most of my news about Chicago from secondcitycop.blogspot.com
I’m surprised they haven’t found a way to censor him.
The same Democrats and Democrat voters. Enjoy!
One has NOTHING to do with the other except two asinine black mayors. Learn about MOVE. Educate yourself.

Perhaps they can now see WHO the “well regulated militia” that is “necessary for the security of a free state” ACTUALLY is. These citizens, (unorganized militia under Illinois law) should be trained, organized, and answerable to the governor at time like this, when there are not enough organized militia (National Guard) available.
But leftists like the semi-commie bunch currently running Illinois despise the constitutional concept of the RKBA that the framers gave to us, and have worked diligently to subvert it’s meaning for over a hundred years now.
