*** As several demonstrations continued to take place throughout the Bay Area on Tuesday, Muni announced it would no longer transport officers from the San Francisco Police Department to protests.
"We transport everyone at MTA and make sure our services are available for critical needs," SFMTA responded at the time. "From the COVID+ patients we transported to health care and rooms to SFPD officers, Muni is for everyone. To be clear, no Muni vehicles or employees will be used to transport any detainee."
On Tuesday, however, the transit agency said it was making efforts to advance its racial equity work and support communities of color.
"We want to be clear about the SFMTAs commitments going forward. We have an opportunity as agents of change," wrote SFMTA.
The organization said it will prioritize "agency-wide implicit bias training" in addition to building upon its equity strategy to improve service performance in San Francisco neighborhoods with high percentages of people of color in low-income households.
"The idea for the memorial was suggested by one of our transportation controllers in our Transportation Management Center," said Erica Kato, a spokesperson for Muni. "Weve been engaged in conversations with our staff, and that has given us the opportunity to reflect on what we can do to support our staff and black and brown community, and turn words into action."
This news comes after the transit agency was criticized on social media for videos uploaded by users showing officers in riot gear departing packed buses in downtown San Francisco earlier this month. Joe Fitzgerald Rodriguez, a journalist for KQED, also shared a photo on Twitter of a digital display that read "Police Services" on the back of a bus.

Let ‘em die!
In mob rule, the mob rules. Obey, or die.
If you listen to fools, the mob rules!
There is an episode of The Wire where, due to budget cuts, the detective can’t get a working vehicle and has to take the city bus to the scene of a murder.
Life imitates art?
“They choose to support the BLM movement.”
And the Teachers Union, which will be the main beneficiary of defunding the police.
Not that they’d do a damn thing anyway. Maybe shoot a dog and rough up a priest but ignore any actual rioters.
The left thought the idea of ‘The Purge’ would make a good movie...maybe it isn’t so dumb.
How about cops around the country decide on a 24hr period where NOBODY shows up for work. Advertise it. Shout it from the rooftops.
The leftards will be terrified. They’ll all get COVID clamoring to buy a firearm. Which will be a little more difficult than they believed...given all the legislation they’ve supported.
We’ll say ‘bring it’, we already have them.
They can only get on if they “SIT IN THE BACK OF THE BUS”.
Remind you all of anything?
I suspect short for SF Municipal. Similar to BART.
