The city of Jacksonvilles inventory for Confederate memorials lists three monuments and eight markers on city property related to the Civil War.
As of Tuesday morning, there was one less, and Mayor Lenny Curry said the others are coming down, too.
Crews were seen overnight using a crane to remove a Confederate monument in Jacksonvilles Hemming Park, the downtown city plaza framed on two sides by City Hall and the Federal Courthouse. The statue and nameplate were hauled off well before daylight, leaving an empty pedestal.

What Civil War????
There will be a new American flag within the next 50 years, guaranteed.
I know all of that very well. I take it you did not notice my sarcasm tag
We used to laugh at the air-brushed photos out of Soviet Russia when Stalin decided to make an un-person.
Now we are making similar holes in our own history because the mob wants it. I do heap a lot of blame on the K-12 Schools and teachers for pushing ideology rather than balanced facts.
Just waiting for Stone Mountain and Mount Rushmore to be politically renovated. There will be resistance, count on it!
>>>Removal of the statue is just another way to re-write history.
When you forget the past,.. and you will repeat it. Ignoring history is the easiest way to forget how far you have come.
Is that why there aren’t statues to Sherman and Grant across the South? Was their omission an effort to rewrite history?
Well the Confederates were Democrats. I’m sure old “Sheets’’ will come down at some point.
There will be a new American flag within the next 50 years, guaranteed.
When DC and Puerto Rico are granted statehood.
And it won’t be “DC” anymore, since that is taken from “Columbia” after Christopher Columbus.
Green Cove is a speed trap.
There are many other places in Clay County.
Flemming Island, Orange Park, Middleburg...
Change “District of Columbia” to “Domain of Criminals” or “Den of Corruption.” You then can keep the DC acronym.
Somebody needs to set up a GoFundMe page to build and erect five Confederate statues for every one they take down.
Once the DemonRATs remove the memorials of the shame of their forced enslavement of Blacks then they can openly embark on the enslavement of all through over spending.
No. The Confederate stuff is the low-hanging fruit. Up next is Christopher Columbus, then Texas Revolution figures, slave-owning Founding Fathers. All torn down and replaced by MLK and Harvey Milk.
The statues/monuments are part of the Left’s culture war crusade.
In a related area, changing the names of many Army installations across the South is in the news today. The out of control Pentagon again is charting their own path of destruction and mayhem. The President can stop this in its tracks so I have emailed him that this is my personal line in the sand. If the names change without his objections and stopping it, I will stay home in November. When there is no difference in the policies of the two parties, there is no reason to vote.
Always loved White Settlement in Texas. Nearby is Angelo’s Barbeque, White Settlement Road, Fort Worth.
Oh, Thank goodness the poets shirt is here.
Don’t forget renaming America.
Go ahead and put up statues of George Floyd kids
Remember when the Taliban blew up all those Buddhist statues? Universal outrage. They were part of history and heritage, not really idols to be worshiped.
I’ve said this before, you may love or hate the statues but this is very short sighted thinking. We have the technology to turn every single monument into an interactive learning experience. Walk up to a statue, monument, tree, park - anywhere - scan a QR code and see a list of commentaries.
Use the Lincoln Memorial as an example. There is so much to learn about the man, his presidency, the civil war, the design and construction of the monument, you name it. Anyone who wanted to could cut together a podcast or video offering different perspectives and any visitors could choose the perspective and of course rate the content. Instead of destroying these things, turn them into educational opportunities and inspire people.

Since statues are necessary for the teaching of history, how about we erect some Sherman, Grant and Lincoln statues in city squares across the South?
