A Buffalo teenager who took it on himself to sweep up after George Floyd protests has been handsomely rewarded for his efforts.
Antonio Gwynn Jr., an 18-year-old high school student, has been offered a full scholarship to Medaille College and can zip to class in a red, 2004 Ford Mustang convertible, a gift from a grateful local who was moved by the teen’s initiative, according to reports.
He’s even getting a year of free auto insurance, courtesy of a local businessman.
“I just felt compelled to help him out,” Bob Briceland of Briceland Insurance told Buffalo’s WKBW-TV. “We just need to get together our whole city and show people how there’s so many good people here.”

The donor is responsible for the gift tax. Bob Briceland would only have to file a gift tax return if the Fair Market Value (FMV) on the date of the donation was greater than $15,000.
The recipient’s basis in the gift is the same as the donor’s gift basis.
Sorry for my cynicism but I have a feeling we are going to at least hear about this young lad again and most likely about one of his so call neighbors/friends ‘jacking’ his new ride and probably not caring what happens to him in the process.

The young man was out at 2 am busting his butt cleaning up after the communist thugs. He seems to be a fine young man and I wish him the best as he pursues his happiness.
It depends on exactly what the car, insurance, and scholarship are called. When Pontiac gave away a bunch of cars on Oprah’s TV show, the gifts were apparently categorized as prizes, leaving the winners on the hook for the taxes.
Had they actually been gifts from Oprah, Oprah would have had to pay the taxes.
Scholarships do seem to fall under the tax laws.
