Seriously it is time to think “outside the box, and strategically. I think it would be worth a paltry 55 million dollars if the price tag could be strictly kept at that figure, not a dollar more. It would be allocated perhaps in several phases, and everything organized methodically and DEFINITELY overseen by a Construction Mgr. representing the WH. In fact Trump could marshall his own contractots rhar he’s used on countless bldg. projects. Face it Minneapolis is broke and broken in ways even they don’t know. Volunteers marshalled by Trump from both outside and inside Mpls, could be sent there, in a test-case re-development/revitalization effort. I am thinking more on this and these are just the first spontaneous ideas I am sending out as they come to me.There would be numerous strings attached, among them the most important one being that henceforth they and they alone would be responsible for taking care of any damage caused by rioters in the future themselves. I would welcome any ideas, and I don’t care if you think this is idiotic. I am just thinking of ways to beat them at their own game, something that, if it were handled the right way would make it more likely Trump would do well there in November. Practical strings attached like I said involving disbursement of funds as work is completed, and NO strings attached that might suggest “Now you’ll have to vote for me.” Beat them at their own game. What do you think—bad idea, good idea, or impossible? I think it’s good especially for the symbolic value of showing support for the pain and suffering the city has been through “thanks to a corrupt police force, with Chauvin as the most corrupt. I think it would be the greatest gesture a President could make—seriously. And no, I’m not a troll, I’ve been here a long time-—bad idea? Anybody else have prognostications for the future of the city especially after they’ve announced a total re-imagining of their “police” structure...

I think it would be worth a paltry 55 million dollars if the price tag could be strictly kept at that figure, not a dollar more.

It is clearly stated in the article that the number is going to go much higher. Even if a deal was struck at that number, they would surely come back crying for more money at some later time.

The "not a dollar more" pledge would be quickly broken after an onslaught of negative press blaming Trump for being heartless, racist, and organizing the effort to line his pockets and those of his cronies.

This would set a very bad example as other woke/broke cities line up at the trough demanding bailouts. They will complain of political favoritism in choosing Minneapolis, the largest city in a state the Trump would really like to carry in November.

You can't beat liberals at their own game because they constantly change the rules to always give themselves the advantage.

This is a state issue. It needs to be dealt with at the state level. Trump made that point repeatedly during the panicdemic response.

The federal government is broke, and has been for a long, long time. Printing Monopoly money is not a valid long-term solution, nor is running to China for bailouts.

Yeah, give them the money , but our president allocates the money, maybe have Ben Carson oversee it.

Not a penny. He is responsible for allowing it to get out of hand, and the US taxpayer is not responsible for cleaning up the messes the woke elected officials caused. Confiscate all of their assets to go toward paying for the damage to businesses. The people who voted for these idiots should pay for this.

I believe the people of Minnesota should carry the cost of this tragedy. They elected the policies and ideology of THEIR state and city government. Therefore, American citizens of other states do not have obligation to have our taxes support their ideology. In my opinion, there was no effort in protecting the police, citizens, traffic and structures in that chaos. I believe they did not accept the President’s offer to assist. They wanted to make a statement. Divide and Conquer, they followed the rule book to the letter.

Stupidest idea I ever heard of.
We should be sending them a bill of tens of billions of dollars for being the root cause of all this destruction.
Alternatively, send a B2 Bomber.
F**k em.

I think you are on to something here. Combine this with some tax incentive requirements. Get a local board for input so they feel like they are part of the process. There are some decisions that can safely go either way. Let the locals weigh in on those.

Start a private rebuild fund celebrities can throw money at and partner with existing charities to disburse those funds.

Get anything cleaned up rebuilt and reopened by October and this becomes part of the campaign.

This is no different than taking a knee. Taxpayers paying for looting and burning a city where the mayor stood by a let it happen is outrageous.

Nope, let them live in the squalor they created. Maybe those rich Hollywood buddies can chip in.

I like the concept. Take their abject failure...publicize it...rub their idiotic faces in it...come in as the white knight...tie them up with federal purse strings...keep on hammering their stupidity and voter pandering....work out an acceptable very mild repayment scheme...so they gotta watch themselves...and show how magnanimous you (Trump) are...and fix up (at least building wise) the dump...hire contractors you know and even conservative “minority” contractors. Not a bad idea. But get rid of the hapless vote panderers.
