Fact check: Raleigh text messages say Antifa planned to raid rich neighborhoods

Some pundits and politicians have raised questions about people protesting police brutality throughout the country -- in some cases accusing them of having ulterior motives.

A right wing pundit falsely accused liberal billionaire George Soros of funding the protests.

President Trump has suggested some are “anarchists.”

And in Raleigh this week, a message that was posted to neighborhood boards and texted amongst people suggested that “antifa” planned to come into wealthy areas and steal from residents.

“Antifa may be heading into the wealthy neighborhoods tonight to take what should be theirs,” one text said on June 2.

YES - claiming there is no connection from Soros to the violence.....

Antifa would not go into affluent neighborhoods to steal. If Antifa goes into these areas it is to commit acts of property damage.

One of Antifa's roles in these riots is to create property damage such as smashed store windows, smashed doors etc and thereby encourage opportunistic looting by protesters.

There were "peaceful marches" planned for the suburbs of Cary and Apex today. Cary sent out an email yesterday advising people of road closures. This is Apex.

Liberal leaning? Sounds more like the ANTIFA media outlet. Flat statements that Soros is not paying for this, that they have no plans to hit wealthy areas, etc sound like they came right from the ANTIFA copy machine. Besides, ANTIFA can’t hit just any wealthy areas, they don’t want to burn their own houses.

Wow - those are the subrurbs of Raleigh (for others reading this).

I’d dare them to go into the “rich” neighborhoods of Cary and Apex and Raleigh. They will meet some of the millions of gun owners in this country.
