Rabbi Akiva had his flesh torn by iron combs. Rabbi Haninah ben Teradion, who was wrapped in a Torah scroll and burned alive. Damp wool was packed into his chest to ensure he would not die quickly.
A few Catholic saints:St.Stephen stoned to death;Saint Margaret Clitherow was stretched on a sharp rock and took 15 minutes to die under an 800 lb weight pressed on her from above;Romanus was to be burned at the stake for his faith, but rain kept putting out the flames. So then his tongue was cut out, because he was an excellent preacher. Then he was strangled and then beheaded.
Telling the truth is good for the soul, but it can be bloody Hell for the body!
