My Mom keeps on mentioning Florida..but for ONCE Id love to know how it is to live in a Republican community, any suggestions? I’ll take my chances with Hurricanes, anything is better than living here in Commiefornia, the pandering to looters, the destruction of our city and they just dont care, they just dont care

My suggestion would be the Tampa area. South of the city. Referred to as South Bay. Tampa is the least hurricane-prone area in Florida. The area hasn’t had a hurricane in nearly 100 years.
But, there are no sandy beaches in this area. You’ll have to drive about 45 minutes to get to sandy beaches. There is plenty of ocean nearby but, it’s an anomalous area for Florida in that there are no sandy beaches in the immediate vicinity.
This specific area has many active and retired military living in the area due to the presence MacDill AFB. I fall into the latter category. Also, the towns in this area are not within the City of Tampa. They are unincorporated and are policed by the county Sheriffs. Not politically elected Police Chiefs.

Sarah, we live in a town Called Apollo Beach which is ironic in that there is no beach. But, there are intercoastal waterways where boat owners can navigate to Tampa Bay and then the Gulf of Mexico. The community is called Mirabay.
We paid cash for our current home. Which was not an issue at all since the price of homes where we left in California, specifically, Orange County, dwarfed the prices of homes in Florida.
Not pushing this area on you. Not at all. Just mention it because you said you would even tolerate hurricanes and this area is not a hurricane-prone area. A rarity in coastal Florida. Anyway, whatever you eventually decide to do we wish you the best of luck.
