They are still with the police force - they just quit the ERT. I’m guessing that with their union contract they can do that and still keep their jobs.
I would imagine that the ERT is a “special” unit that gets called up. The probably get additional training and equipment.
The old guy is a fool. You don’t go pawing at police officers—no matter how old and feeble you are.
