The House Judiciary Committee will host a June 10 hearing in the wake of George Floyd's death to tackle racial profiling, police brutality and the fractured relationship between police departments and the communities they serve, marking the first step for the House to pass police reform legislation.
The committee hearing comes as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said Thursday that Democrats will put forth "comprehensive" legislation in the coming days to address these issues.
"Many of these bills have been in the hopper. And now with all the public exposure of it, we have a better chance of getting them turned into law," Pelosi said Thursday in a call with reporters.

NOTHING has ever come out of a hearing.
THEY started it nd now they want to investigate it?
Ok, these riots are all in democrat controlled cities...
Bills are already in the hopper. Already written. What is the point of the hearings? Its all about the campaign.
Will the House tackle the Race Riots, Arson and street Murders of helpless citizens as the police were ordered to stand down by DEMOCRATS at the same time?
Or does the House only exist to misunderstand issues, grasp for power and stuff their pockets between vacations?
Great. MORE federal intrusion on rightful state and local prerogatives. But those folks in Washington know more about the needs of every little community and big city around the country than anybody else.
Uh oh, there's that word again. Nothing good ever comes from "comprehensive" junk from Washington.
Sounds like congress will finally crack down and perhaps do something about the liberal justice system in the liberal strongholds that democrats control.
39 Unarmed Blacks killed a year by Police when Obama was POTUS.
9 Unarmed Blacks killed a year by Police while Trump is POTUS.
92% of Black Homicides are committed by other Blacks.
Anyone care to bet that none of these FACTS will come out in Testimony during this Kangaroo Hearing?
Oh, puleesze! A lot of things would have become law had you and your fellow Democrats wasted 3 years on bogus investigations. Anyone else want to guess where these "hearings" will go?
Hey, I have an idea. Let’s not have police. That’s what the Minneapolis City Council would like. No police - everyone lives in harmony.
Gee. I wonder if they will bring up the fact that these riots are driven by racists and insurrectionists who have instigated and fanned the flames of racial discontent by spreading the MYTH that there is an epidemic of black men being assassinated on the streets of this country by police?
Will they bring up the fact that black men are killed by police in fewer numbers both by quantity AND as a percentage of the population than non-blacks are?
Or that a policeman of ANY color is EIGHTEEN TIMES more likely to be murdered by a black person than a black person is to be killed at the hands of the police?
In a government that worked, that was not run by ideologues, that actually provided sane representation for their constituents, one would hope so.
But I don’t have high hopes.
Will they be honest and day that 9 unarmed black men were killed by police, all but two were i n self defense- while 19 unarmed white people were killed by police, and 54 police were killed last year?
Where is this supposed systemic racism resulting in black people, all unarmed, dying ‘all around the country’?
How many people are killed by illegals aliens drunk driving every year? Or illegal felons murdering them? or raping?
We have 350 million people i n the US- millions of arrests a year- and only 2 black people died at the hands of ‘rogue cops’ and there’s an ‘epidemic of racist cops killing lack people’?
We can be sure they will all come out on the side of the peaceful protesters terrorist organizations BLM and ANTIFA we can also so be sure that they will all take a knee in the house. WE ARE AT WAR
Is this a hearing by proxy?
Here comes the socialist legislation...
Nancy wants her chance to stir things up
I feel so relieved, the Democrats are going to investigate. This will lead to legislation that will make police brutality illegal. I’ll feel so much safer knowing it has been taken care. For the life of me though, I don’t understand why police brutality wasn’t already illegal. There must be so many new laws that need to be written. </sarc>
hmmm, have those ‘many Bills’ been in the hopper since the 1980’s.........when Mz Pelosi and Mr Shumer joined Congress?? And, gee, curious that they didn’t pass those Bills when Pres Obama was in Office and Dems controlled Congress. I’m sure media will not refresh memories on this.
