The problem is the suburbs and rural areas do not pay as well.

If I were a law enforcement officer, I’d look for a county deputy sheriff job in a conservative rural area.

The ‘cities’ HAVE to pay more because it COSTS MORE to live in the cities.

I live rural in Lyon County, N Nevada.

IF a person only wants 1/4 acre & a house & garage, it is available for well under $200K. IF you want more—horses for your kids-— a ‘5 acre’ parcel with house & garage is more, but doable.

I live on 5.58 acres I bought in Feb 2005. I ADDED extensive fencing & cross fencing for my 6 horses & I added a garage. My current property taxes are UNDER $750 annually. My monthly power bills are UNDER $100. NO lawn to mow-—sand & sage. Clean air & school complex for K-12 is about 7 miles away...bus picks up on this corner.

Is there a 7-11 right next door-—NO. Local burg has Dollar General—Family Dollar—Subway—2 small casinos (currently closed due to virus) & 2 gas stations—both of which are PIRATES. Neighbor drives to Reno daily for his job-—all highway. Another neighbor works for Tesla...about 27 miles each way—also all highway. Can buy guns & ammo without hassle, and I can ride my horses right out of my gate for miles without trailering.

Pay is higher in the cities for EVERYONE because the cost of living is higher in the cities.

Ask yourself HOW much you have in net income that you can spend after rent/mortgage—utilities—gas—food. DISPOSABLE income here is probably more-—Nevada does NOT have personal income taxes, either.

IF I were a cop in ANY large USA city today, I would be looking to move to a ‘Western” state & to get away from all the mayhem.
