Houston police chief on President Trump's warning of military deployment: 'Keep your mouth shut'

HOUSTON, Texas -- The chief of Houston police had some direct words for President Donald Trump who threatened to deploy the U.S. military to American cities if governors don't toughen up and quell violent protests.

It's his latest warning amid violent protests after George Floyd's death in Minneapolis police custody.

"You've got to arrest people, you have to track people, you have to put them in jail for 10 years and you'll never see this stuff again," said Trump. "We're doing it in Washington, D.C. We're going to do something that people haven't seen before."

During an interview with CNN Monday night, Chief Art Acevedo responded to those statements.

"Let me just say this to the President of the United States on behalf of the police chiefs in this country, please, if you don't have something constructive to say, keep your mouth shut," Acevedo said. "Because you're putting men and women in their early 20s at risk. Its not about dominating, it's about winning hearts and minds."

"We don't want people to confuse kindness with weakness, but we don't want ignorance to ruin what we have here in Houston," Acevedo continued. "It's time to be presidential, not like you're on The Apprentice. This is not Hollywood. This is real life, and real lives are at risk."

You can watch Acevedo's full interview with CNN in the video above.

Probably the only part of Texas without a very heavily armed citizenry as well.

Maybe so. I’m sure the DemonRats have plans to appropriate a few trillion more to rebuild. But that money never gets there and nothing is rebuilt for decades.

Black communities are being set back to a level only surpassed by post Civil War conditions. When they didn’t have any communities to speak of.

And it’s all be done by leftist anarchists and assisted by feckless DemonRat politicians.

Why is ANTIFA allowed to operate?
What happens if Soros funded operations get violent and engage in domestic terrorism?
What happens if mayors/ police comms/chiefs do not enforce the law?

Then this today.

Think recent events.
You have more than you know.

Getting the picture yet?

The police chief of Houston is a long time and very vocal Trump-hater.

Same thing with New York State prison Superintendent, and their Deputy Superintendents. Those jobs were all Civil Service.

They complained about how hard it is to fire somebody with civil service protection...

Now LAPD chief could be fired at any time for any reason...

Acevedo is obviously ignorant of the cop-killings in recent days by protestors around the country and many attempts.

Houston has ha a dyke as either a mayor but I believe Chief of Police, black racists as mayors, etc., and now a dumbassed Hispanic Trump hater who doesn’t know what is going on in the world.

I would hope that the Governor have a private world with this prick and read him the riot act about professional behavior. He might even hint at an ethics/conduct investigation of him would be appropriate should there be future acts of stupidity and ignorance.

blah blah blah, let these communists sit in a circle jerk and attack POTUS and defend the the murder and mayhem we all see going on. This plays well to who? Certainly not independent voters and voters in swing states.

They are hurting the dems in other places that are NOT inside their feral cities and districts where a child murderer would get elected over a Republican.

November can't come fast enough.

If the protest is non-violent, and you can maybe open a dialogue, go foe it. However, yo have to be prepared to use some measure of force and tactics to stop them when they become violent or of the mood changes.

Between this POS and Judge Lina Hidalgo Houston should be perfectly poised to be a real BLAST by Nov.3. And the upcoming funeral parade is the kick off. Hunker down Houston, it’s going to be a bumpy ride.

This is why Chief Acevedo’s city descends into chaos.

What a disrespectful P.O.S.

I hope President Trump tells the Chief to do his damn job and shut the hell up.

This is why Houston is turning into a toilet bowl.

Probably correct on your ‘conclusion’ (black communities being dissolved in urban cities).

I think some of this realization has occurred in Minneapolis in the past weekend. A lot of the view is directed at rich white kids who showed up to destroy their community.

One issue I see is that this might have been very successful in the 1990s...shoving some new brand onto blacks and them accepting it. At this point, probably half of blacks in the nation have turned and started to ask really stupid questions about the kids, the Democratic Party, and the agenda. The propaganda....isn’t working.

“Reformers”, who wanted to get rid of the civil service protection, complained about officials not going along with “reforms” pushed by politicians..."

In my Department, Albany was more worried about how clean the floors were on the units than if the inmates were making weapons or doing drugs. They'd jump on the Superintendent, and Deputy Superintendent of Security, if the officers were writing too many misbehavior reports. In turn, the Captains and Lieutenants were ordered to reduce the number of misbehavior reports, and give lighter punishment to the inmates, so a lot of reports were tossed out. It got to the point where it wasn't even worth writing a report up, because you knew it wasn't going to be dealt with seriously. You always felt like you were being undermined by the brass. As a Sergeant, I'd tell an inmate he couldn't do something, and then the inmate would go cry to a Lieutenant or above, and I'd be told to let him do it.

I had a run in with a Captain one evening when I was covering the Special Housing Unit. I had an inmate there who was threatening to hurt himself. I called my Watch Commander (Lieutenant) about it, and he sent one of the nurses to evaluate the guy. The nurse recommended he be moved to the infirmary where he could be placed in an isolation room until the doctor could see him the next day, and the Watch Commander processed the move. I'd gotten the guy all settled into the infirmary, and I get back to SHU to do rounds, and the next thing I know, the Captain wants to talk to me. He wanted to know why I had moved the inmate to the infirmary. I told him that the nurse has recommended it because he was threatening to hurt himself. He told me that I shouldn't have moved him, and that now I had to go back to the infirmary, get him packed up again, and move him back to SHU. I can't remember everything that I said at the time because it's been over 20 years, but the one thing I do know that I said to him was: "Fine, if you want him moved back to the box, then you can do it yourself" and I hung up on him.

Not long after I was called up to his office, and given a written reprimand. I was supposed to sign it, but I refused, and I left his office. The guy was moved back to SHU at some point, but it wasn't that night. I think the next day was a Friday, and I had weekends off. When I came back the following Monday, I discovered that the same inmate I had moved to the infirmary a few days before, and had been moved back to SHU, had been readmitted back into the infirmary over the weekend I was off. Now if the Captain had only let me do my job, he could have saved everyone a whole lot of aggravation and trouble.
