We Stand in Solidarity #BlackLivesMatter To the Etsy Community,
The past days and weeks have, once again, shone a spotlight on the tremendous injustices in our society. We stand in solidarity with our employees and communities who are voicing their anguish, anger, and deep frustration with systems that oppress and devalue Black lives.
We stand against police brutality in all forms. We stand against a criminal justice system that disproportionately targets Black Americans. We stand against the widespread disenfranchisement of Black and Brown communities whose voices are silenced at the polls.
Allyship with Black communities is as much a moral imperative as a requirement of our business.
We cant fight for small businesses, if we dont also fight for the empowerment of Black business owners. We cant hire and care for our Black employees, if we dont also protect Black lives everywhere. We cant be there for women employees, if we arent also standing up specifically for Black women. We cant advocate for parents, if we arent standing with Black mothers and fathers who fear for their Black childrens lives.
Black Lives Matter is the civil rights movement of our time, because it addresses a fundamental inequality in our society: that Black lives are too often undervalued. This notion inspired Etsys own internal commitments from diversity and inclusion to economic empowerment.
We also believe that its critical to provide support to organizations working tirelessly for criminal justice reform and those that assist Black-led institutions. Thats why today we are announcing donations of $500,000 to the Equal Justice Initiative and $500,000 to Borealis Philanthropys Black-Led Movement Fund, as well as matching employee donations. We encourage our community to join us in supporting these important organizations.
Etsy is built on a belief that communities have the power to change the status quo. Change is hard-fought, and we are committed to this fight.
Josh Silverman
CEO, Etsy
Time for an Etsy alternative.
Thanks for posting this, FRiend. Etsy just alienated a lot of people, conservatives, who may purchase their products.
They ignored Michael Jordan’s advice: “Both Democrats and Republicans buy shoes.” Smart man. Talented and handsome too. Plus, apparently, a good family man as well (I saw a documentary on Chicago basketball).
I dont understand why these companies feel compelled to virtue signal like this.
I got an email from a magazine that I subscribe to telling me about 12 charities that I need to donate to now. WTH? The arrogance! I immediately unsubscribed from the emails and tomorrow Ill cancel the magazine.
On LinkedIn, too. My only social media presence where I track industry-specific info & maintain professional connections. I “hide” those posts from my feed but hate all the glomming-on.
Linkedin is bad you are right. Did you see all of the Covid stuff. I have not been on that site lately but I can only imagine.
I got an email from GoFundMe. They are donating $500,000 for a Justice and Inequality Fund which focuses on bail, racial justice, and law enforcement reform.
Looks like this leftist prick is supporting the rioters and head-faking support for their victims.
Since the Etsy CEO is named Silverman, I, as a Jewish American, assume with a good degree of accuracy, that he is also Jewish (in name only).
He sounds like what the “Good Germans” said to Hitler at his rallies, that they stood by him against those (i.e. the Jews) who persecute “loyal Germans”.
Just substitute “police” and “white privilege” for “Jews” and you have an updated version of fascist/communist propaganda against their imagined enemies.
Silverman is a modern day KAPO, a self-serving Jewish sellout to the enemy. Some of them ended up shot by fellow Jews at the end of WW2. Gee, I miss the old days.
By the way, what the hell is Etsy? Is it taken from the song “Itsy Bitsy yellow Poka-dotted Bikini” run at 33-1/2 RPM and misspelled
SMUCK!!!!
Makes me wish I used Etsy just so I could give it up in protest!
Company heads falling over each other to be the first. Etsy caters to a mostly white demographic. Looks like your going to be hurting soon when this gets out
IF I had an Etsy app, Id delete it right now.
Since i posted this, i am helping to get it out. The truth is what is important.
I find it unacceptable for etsy ceo to use money he made from sellers and give it to groups we can see on TV destroying property and our country.. its a blatant showing of what etsy ceo considers worth 1 million to to further their cause.
I visited their discussion forum, and was pleasantly surprised to find a lot of people criticizing this move. Etsy isn’t comprised solely of millennial SJWs after all.
