Trump heading to Maine to visit maker of medical swabs, but [Maine Governor Janet] Mills raises security concerns

The governor asks U.S. Attorney General William Barr to share with state authorities any ‘intelligence’ they have on violent professional protesters who may be coming to Maine.

BY SCOTT THISTLE, STAFF WRITER

President Trump plans to come to Maine this week to tour one of the only factories producing medical swabs for coronavirus tests, prompting Gov. Janet Mills to raise concerns about potential “unrest” during the visit.

. . .

The White House said Monday that Trump plans to visit the Piscataquis County town of Guilford to tour the Puritan Medical Products factory, which is one of only two global producers of swabs used to test patients for the coronavirus.

. . .

Trump later said Mills was not persuasive in her request that he stay away from Maine.

“She tried to talk me out of it,” Trump said. “Now I think she probably talked me into it. She just doesn’t understand me very well. But that’s OK.”

Under an executive order from Mills, out-of-state visitors to Maine are expected to quarantine for 14 days before interacting publicly in the state. It appears the president is not going to abide by the governor’s order, which is in effect current state law.

Trump last visited the state in 2016, when he made five different trips during his election campaign.

. . .

Guilford, in southern Piscataquis County in the north-central part of the state, has a population of about 1,500 people. It is in the 2nd Congressional District, which gave Trump a single electoral vote in the 2016 election.

Guilford is about 4 hours north of Portland. I don't expect a whole lot of demonstrators are going to drag their ass up there.

I'm sure the Secret Service can handle security. Just handle traffic.

Begs the question, why is the governor safe from the arsonist, looters and rioters? Are they allies?

Yes.
And she’ll leak the itinerary and security layout.

It sounds like Trump thinks it is. The article suggests that Trump is campaigning, and he probably is. He’s the incumbent and this is how it’s done.

Governor Karen doesn’t really have a good excuse to stop him, either.

It’s ok. He can take the 82nd Airborne with him. I suspect they can handle the governor and her fears.

Yes, more necessary than ever. We must get back to normal.

The b-word Guv can explain it all to the phalanx of SEALS accompanying the C.I.C. as “security”.

Mills is a complete leftie loon. She screwed the restaurants on the state by pushing back their opening day at the last minute. They were ready to open, bought inventory, scheduled staff, and then pulled the rug out from under them.

speaking of coronavirus tests, remember when the merchants of covid deaths were miserable the numbers were decreasing, the study conveniently appeared, claiming positive results are positive and negative results are probably positive too?

2 Jun: ABC Australia: Coronavirus false positive result for Blackwater man Nathan Turner prompts apology from Queensland Premier
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has apologised to the family of a Central Queensland man whose death was wrongly attributed to COVID-19.
Her apology has come after confirmation Blackwater man, Nathan Turner, did not die of coronavirus, igniting an angry backlash among residents of the tight-knit central Queensland community...

After a social media post yesterday afternoon revealed his fiancee, Simone Devon, had been told that a post-mortem examination confirmed Mr Turner, 30 did not have COVID-19, Facebook was flooded with irate comments...
Mr Turner was named as “Australia’s youngest COVID-19 victim” on May 27 when the Premier announced he had tested positive for coronavirus after being found dead at his Blackwater home...

Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine president Ewan McPhee told ABC Capricornia the negative coronavirus result was not a surprise.
“You would expect for this tragic event to have been related to COVID, that there would have been significant cases within the community and clearly that isn’t the case,” Dr McPhee said.
“It’s certainly extraordinary that the same town has had two false-positive cases and it begs the question as to whether the testing is accurate and being done correctly. I think that warrants investigation...

Rumours of a false positive test had been circulating in Blackwater for days after The Australian newspaper reported a second test done several hours after the initial test had come back negative.
When questioned about this, Dr Young dismissed the second test because it was too contaminated to be effective and said it was likely Mr Turner did have COVID-19...

This case follows a “false positive” test result for another Blackwater worker in April.
Mining company BHP Mitsubishi Alliance revealed one of its workers, who had tested positive for COVID-19, was later cleared after a second test and the mistake was attributed to a “laboratory error”.
At the time, Queensland Health declined to comment on the case or the number of false positive results...
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-06-02/coronavirus-queensland-nathan-turner-false-positive-blackwater/12308080

ABC in-house Doc, Norman Swan, has been on air this morning saying nonetheless, if you get a negative result, but have a couple of the many covid symptoms, you should have another test done, because you could well be positive, and that positives are usually correct, cos a study said so.

given how the “authorities” and MSM jumped all over this story when it originally broke - seemingly to squash Queenslanders’ demands for an end to the lockdown, as there were only 6 deaths and virtually no new cases for weeks - it’s telling the news of the second “negative result” didn’t come from “authorities”:

2 Jun: 9News Australia: Coronavirus: Town angry after youngest ‘virus death’ tests negative
Mr Turner, 30, had serious underlying health issues (EPILEPSY AND ASTHMA) before experiencing coronavirus symptoms in the weeks before he died and was not tested while alive.
As Mr Turner had not worked for six months or left the mining town since February, authorities were unsure how he contracted the virus.
Hundreds of Blackwater locals were tested and Queensland Health even had the town’s sewage tested to try and determine the source of his COVID-19 infection...

petty tyrant, Jeannette Young who has shut down Queensland’s borders til at least September (that could change due to general anger and specific tourism industry anger as southern Aussies visit Qld during winter to get away from the cold, bringing billions of $$ into the debt-ridden State):

2 Jun: Brisbane Times Australia: Calls for answers and apologies after central Queensland COVID-19 scare
By Matt Dennien and Lydia Lynch; With Toby Crockford, AAP
Queensland chief health officer Dr Jeannette Young confirmed in a statement on Monday night that the coroner advised “further tests” had come back negative...

The revelation has sparked anger and confusion, with an online petition calling for Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and Dr Young to apologise to Mr Turner’s family and community already receiving more than 2700 signatures by Tuesday morning.
“Your leadership created emotional, mental and physical trauma,” the petition read.
Opposition leader Deb Frecklington also backed the calls. “There are some serious questions to be answered today,” she told 4BC...
“How can Queenslanders have confidence in the testing regime in Queensland?”...

A workmate of Mr Turner’s partner first revealed the coroner’s finding on Monday night, later confirmed by Queensland Health...

enough of the testing.

I don't expect a whole lot of demonstrators are going to drag their ass up there.

It will be the college students from the Boston area that have year long leases on their dwellings and time on their hands as classes might well be completely cancelled in the fall. This town has some bitter clingers. The college population in the area is around 50-75K. Leave 10% stuck in town with jack to do. Plus the weather up north is getting bearable for a road trip

I wonder if there will be a normal. The next time the Democrats win the White House, will those who don’t support him or her remember this and treat that president the same way? This country is being ripped apart, and I’m not sure the two sides can ever coexist peacefully. Scary.
