First B-1B bombers sighted near Taiwan since Trump announcement on Hong Kong

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Two B-1B bombers and two support tankers were spotted flying from Guam and nearing northeast Taiwan on Sunday (May 31).

On Sunday (May 31), Twitter user Golf9, who specializes in airband monitoring, radar spotting, and aircraft spotting, reported that two B-1B Lancers and two Boeing KC-135 Stratotankers had taken off from Andersen Air Force Base in Guam and flown into the East China Sea near the northeast corner of Taiwan. Taiwanese and Chinese authorities have yet to issue an official response to the patrol.

After refueling the bombers, the two tankers headed back to base in Guam. Meanwhile, the two Lancers turned northeast, flying over the Northern Pacific on a flightpath bound for Alaska.

The flights were the first since President Trump announced Friday (May 29) that the U.S. is ending Hong Kong's special trade status in response to China's new draconian security law directed at the territory. He also announced the U.S. withdrawal from the WHO, new restrictions on Chinese nationals affiliated with the People's Liberation Army (PLA) studying in the U.S., and an investigation into Chinese companies listed on U.S. financial markets.

SAC was dis-established in 1992, so it would have been prior to that time, and even if so— would not have been in clear-— maybe training band or something

Air Combat Command (ACC), Air Mobility Command (AMC), Pacific Air Forces (PACAF), United States Air Forces in Europe (USAFE) & Air Education and Training Command (AETC), United States Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM), which were under SAC at Offutt, were converted to Unified Combatant Command.

All of the above was transferred in turn to United States Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) since 1992, also unlikely to send in clear— maybe to military ATCs or domestic in code.

In 2009 Air Force Global Strike Command (AFGSC) was established under USSTRATCOM, as command and control of all USAF bomber aircraft and the USAF strategic ICBM force. Would be very surprised if you verifiably heard them. Certainly hope not.

This was probably around 90. The call sign was Magic and it was in code and was short. Around 3000 MHZ.

Long time ago— and frequency check with code for switch. Just a guess.

As a kid put a huge world band antenna up on the farm— tunable and steerable array, and listened to Radio Albania from VA mtns— could almost hear the spit hit the microphone of the Red Chinese mouthpiece propaganda put out by Communist Albania. Non-digital, tuned off of atmospherics in and out— but was fun— built the set myself with pop’s help. Heard a lot of burst transmissions with no way to slow them down (all we had was an old, old wire recorder— before tape decks).

China would turn into a boiling desert of fire before a single nuke would leave their silos targeted at any US City. I don’t think nuclear war is on the table. I rather hope China does push it and engages the US navy. Then we can end the stupid trade relationship we have with the Chi Coms forever.
