I am not pre judging the case.
My gut tells me the Policeman had issues, but he did not kill the suspect. The suspect had serious medical conditions.
My view. There is a case for Police Brutality and Involuntary Manslaughter.
Anything beyond that is no better than a Lynch Mob holding a Kangaroo Court with a wannabe Roland Freisler Presiding.
Heck, just listening to Rush and his personal opinion is that the Cop should be Charged with First Degree Murder.
We have moved into a new era, and the Republic itself is at risk.
Perhaps, but the issues are (a) whether Floyd would have survived the arrest if not for Chauvin applying his full body weight by knee to the back of Floyd's neck for nine minutes; and (b) whether the four police officers could have safely affected the arrest of Floyd without the use of a neck restraint for nine minutes.
From the the videos that I have watched (and I believe that I have seen all of the videos that have been publicly released), the use of a neck restraint may have been reasonably necessary for a very short period of time to maintain control over Floyd, but not for nine minutes, and certainly not after Floyd shows signs of distress. Floyd was clearly impaired and could barely stand on his own, and there comes a point where he is face down on the ground, with his hands cuffed behind his back, and clearly, he is not about to flee. Although there might have been a brief struggle just prior to that point, once he is on the ground, I don't see the need for more than a brief neck restraint, if that, with four cops standing over him. Based upon the videos that I have seen, Chauvin is guilty of manslaughter or perhaps criminally negligent homicide as a lesser charge.
