Reports have been somewhat confusing. Apparently there was a small fire in the church office which was put out. I did not see any fire trucks there during the hours I watched constant reporting on TV. The fire set in the lobby of the AFL-CIO building also appears to have gone out without fire trucks. The only building I have heard about so far is the utility building at Lafayette Park near the church which was allowed to burn probably so as not to endanger fire trucks. I don’t get the impression there is any organized effort to burn up buildings. More likely occasional vandalizers without special arson skills or materials. I was in the DC area for the MLK riots in ‘68 to form my comparisons.
